[Salon] Kavanagh: US Army likely to shrink under Hegseth DoD

Jen Kavanagh crunches the numbers and determines that to meet Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s budgetary and strategic goals, the U.S. Army will have to shrink, and the number of U.S. ground forces in Europe is likely to decline sharply. The Trump administration should not apologize for these changes, she adds, because they are badly needed and will better align U.S. military commitments with the country’s security priorities and available resources.
